Georgia's September 29, 2026 State of Emergency automatically extends unexpired deadlines by eight days for certain contracts written on Georgia Association of REALTORS® (GAR) forms. The extension applies to contracts that became binding before 12:01 a.m. on September 29, and includes the closing date. Parties who want to keep their original deadlines must sign an amendment. Contracts that became binding after the emergency began aren't affected. (garealtor.com)
What Georgia home buyers and sellers should know
If you have an active real estate contract in Georgia, check the contract form and dates with your REALTOR®, broker, and closing attorney. The extension applies to unexpired deadlines on qualifying GAR-form contracts. If the parties want to keep the original dates, they must execute an amendment.
The state emergency took effect at 12:01 a.m. on September 29 and is scheduled to expire at 11:59 p.m. on October 29, 2026. It was declared in connection with the state's temporary suspension of motor fuel taxes. (dor.georgia.gov)
