Know the lay of the land.
Château Élan spans 3,500 acres across three counties. Understanding how the resort, golf courses, gated neighborhoods, and nearby 55+ communities fit together is essential for any buyer. Here's your orientation.
At first glance, Château Élan can feel like a small city , and in many ways it is. Spanning 3,500 acres across parts of Barrow, Gwinnett, and Hall counties, this master-planned community is one of the largest luxury developments in the Southeast. It encompasses a publicly accessible resort with a winery, spa, and multiple restaurants, along with a private gated residential community of over a dozen distinct neighborhoods, 45 holes of golf, and world-class amenities.
Then there are the communities that share the name but not the gates. Del Webb Château Élan and the Village at Deaton Creek , both popular 55+ active adult communities , sit just outside the main gated property along Friendship Road in Hoschton. They are separate developments with their own entrances, HOAs, and amenity centers. Understanding where everything sits relative to one another is key to navigating the area as a buyer.
This guide walks you through the geography of Château Élan from the resort's public entrance to the most private enclaves, and out to the neighboring communities beyond the gates.
This is a conceptual orientation , actual lot positions and boundaries vary. Lisa can walk you through the precise layout during a community tour.
Access points & how to arrive.
Château Élan is designed for two types of arrivals: public resort guests and gated community residents. Understanding the difference is the first step to navigating the property.
Main Gate , Thompson Mill Road
The primary entrance to the gated residential community. Located off Thompson Mill Road, this guardhouse provides access to the residential neighborhoods, Sports Club, and the resort campus beyond. Residents and guests check in here.
Resort Entrance , Highway 211
The public-facing entrance to the Château Élan Resort, winery, spa, and dining venues. Accessible from Highway 211 (Old Winder Highway) via the I-85 corridor. Visitors, restaurant guests, and spa patrons use this entrance , no gate code required.
Back Gate , Internal Access
A secondary access point connecting the residential community to the southern portion of the property near Friendship Road. Provides convenient internal circulation for residents traveling between neighborhoods and the resort area.
Arriving from Atlanta
From Atlanta or Hartsfield-Jackson Airport, take I-85 North to Exit 126 (Highway 211 / Old Winder Highway). Head north on Highway 211 for approximately 6 miles. The resort entrance will appear on your right. For the gated residential community, continue to Thompson Mill Road and enter through the main guardhouse. The entire drive from the airport takes about 40 minutes.
How everything fits together.
Think of Château Élan as concentric rings. The resort sits at the center, surrounded by golf courses, which are in turn ringed by residential neighborhoods , all within the main gates.
These communities have their own gates, HOAs, and amenity centers. They are not part of the gated Château Élan.
The six zones of Château Élan.
The Resort Core
At the heart of the 3,500-acre property sits the Château Élan Resort , the iconic 16th-century-style château that houses the winery, spa, restaurants, and the Inn. This is the most recognizable feature of the community and the first thing visitors see. The resort campus is open to the public and serves as both a destination and the community's social anchor.
- Château Élan Winery , daily tours and tastings
- 35,000 sq ft European-style spa
- Eight dining venues from Marc Restaurant to Paddy's Irish Pub
- The Inn at Château Élan (251-room luxury hotel)
- Event spaces for weddings, wine dinners, and festivals
Golf Courses
Three championship courses occupy a significant portion of the community's acreage. The public Château Course and Woodlands Course wind through and around the residential neighborhoods, while the private Legends Course sits within the exclusive double-gated Legends enclave. A 9-hole executive par-3 rounds out the 45-hole golf portfolio.
- Château Course (18 holes, public) , the signature layout through the heart of the community
- Woodlands Course (18 holes, public) , tighter, tree-lined fairways with a secluded atmosphere
- Legends Course (18 holes, private) , co-designed by Sarazen and Snead, exclusive to Legends residents
- Executive Par-3 (9 holes) , practice and casual play
- AJGA National Headquarters on the campus
The Legends , Double-Gated Enclave
The most exclusive section within Château Élan. The Legends is itself double-gated , a gate within the already gated community , providing an extra layer of privacy. Custom estates here sit on homesites of one acre or more along the private Legends Course. This is where the community's most impressive and valuable residences are found.
- Double-gated security
- Custom estates from 4,000 to 19,000+ sq ft
- Private Legends golf course frontage
- Homesites of 1+ acre
- Highest property values in the community
Central Neighborhoods
The largest collection of residential enclaves within the gated community. These neighborhoods , including The Woodlands, Creekside, Brookstone, Covered Bridge, Country Estates, Village at Château Élan, and Village at Oxley , wrap around the golf courses and resort, each with distinct character and price points. Golf cart paths and internal roads connect them.
- The Woodlands , generous lots with golf and wooded views
- Creekside , family-friendly, creek-side settings
- Brookstone , executive homes with maintenance-free options
- Covered Bridge , newest enclave, 0.75–1.5 acre lots
- Country Estates , estate-style rural atmosphere
- Village at Château Élan , walkable to resort amenities
- Village at Oxley , intimate, quiet sophistication
Sports Club & Community Amenities
The Château Élan Sports Club is the community's all-in-one athletic hub, accessible through a separate Sports Club membership. It sits within the gated area and provides indoor basketball, a walking track, tennis and pickleball courts, and fitness facilities. Resort pools, trails, and social spaces are distributed throughout the community.
- Sports Club , indoor basketball court, walking track, tennis & pickleball
- Resort-style outdoor pools (seasonal)
- Miles of walking and biking trails
- Bocce courts and social gathering spaces
- Clubhouse and event venues
Del Webb & Deaton Creek , Outside the Gates
Two popular 55+ active adult communities are located near but entirely separate from gated Château Élan. Del Webb Château Élan sits on Friendship Road in Hoschton with its own gates, HOA, and amenity center. The Village at Deaton Creek, also in Hoschton, is an established community of over 1,100 homes with a massive 35,000 sq ft clubhouse. Neither community has access to gated Château Élan amenities without separate membership.
- Del Webb Château Élan , new construction, 55+, on Friendship Road
- Village at Deaton Creek , 1,144 homes, 35,000 sq ft clubhouse
- Both have independent gates, HOAs, and amenities
- Not part of the gated Château Élan community
- Connected by the Braselton LifePath golf cart trail system
The resort is not the community.
The community surrounds the resort.
The Resort (Public)
- Open to the public , no gate code required
- Winery tours, spa appointments, dining reservations
- Hotel guests and event attendees
- Public tee times on Château & Woodlands courses
- Hollywood productions and festivals
The Residential Community (Private)
- Gated and guarded , resident or guest access only
- Over a dozen distinctive neighborhoods
- HOA membership includes community governance and common areas. Sports Club membership is a separate membership that provides Sports Club access.
- Private Legends Course for select residents
- Full access to resort amenities as neighbors
For buyers: Living in the gated community means the resort is your neighbor, not a tourist attraction you drive to. You'll walk to wine dinners, golf cart to the spa, and meet friends at the pool. The resort's public access also means property values benefit from the resort's national reputation and continuous investment , while your home sits behind gates in a private residential setting.
Del Webb & Deaton Creek sit along Friendship Road.
When buyers search for "Château Élan homes," they often encounter listings in Del Webb Château Élan and the Village at Deaton Creek. Both are excellent communities , but they sit outside the main gated community, along Friendship Road in Hoschton, and are accessed through their own separate entrances.
The Braselton LifePath , a multi-use golf cart trail system , connects these communities to the main Château Élan property, making it possible to golf-cart between areas. However, amenity access is not shared. Residents of Del Webb and Deaton Creek enjoy their own clubhouse, pools, fitness centers, and social programs. Access to the main Château Élan resort, golf courses, and Sports Club requires separate membership or individual purchases.

Château Élan is a golf cart community. The Braselton LifePath trail system connects residential neighborhoods to the resort, golf courses, Sports Club, and dining venues , all accessible without ever getting in a car. Many residents golf-cart to dinner, to the winery, or to a neighbor's house for a glass of wine.
The trail system also extends beyond the main gates, linking the residential community to Del Webb and Deaton Creek. It's one of the features that gives the broader Braselton area its small-town, neighborly feel , even within a luxury community of this scale.
