When you see ME boiling water for someone OTHER than my hummingbirds, you KNOW something's wrong! 😂🐦💧

If you know me, you know cooking isn't exactly my favorite pastime. Most days, the only reason I'm boiling water is to prepare fresh nectar for the hummingbirds visiting my backyard.

But this week, things are a little different here in Braselton, Georgia!

On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the Town of Braselton issued a precautionary boil water advisory following a pump failure at Bear Creek Reservoir.

And yes, that means even I have been spending some unexpected quality time with my stove!

Is the Braselton Boil Water Advisory Still in Effect?

The advisory issued October 7 was lifted October 8 at 2:20 p.m. after water quality tests were returned.

The advisory began at noon on October 7. Water quality testing was expected to provide results Thursday afternoon, October 8.

Residents should continue following the precautions until their water provider officially announces that normal water use can resume.

What Caused the Braselton Water Advisory?

The problem began with pump failures at Bear Creek Reservoir, which supplies water through the Jackson County Water and Sewerage Authority (JCWSA).

The authority temporarily stopped supplying water to Braselton. When the supply was reconnected, the Town of Braselton issued its own precautionary advisory because of the potential for microbial contamination.

Important: A precautionary advisory does not necessarily mean contamination has been detected. It means officials are taking steps to protect public health until testing confirms the water is safe.

What Should Braselton Residents Do?

If your water provider has issued a boil water advisory:

  • Bring tap water to a full rolling boil.
  • Continue boiling for at least one minute.
  • Allow the water to cool before using it.
  • Alternatively, use bottled water.

Use boiled or bottled water for:

  • Drinking and preparing beverages
  • Brushing your teeth
  • Washing fruits and vegetables
  • Cooking and food preparation
  • Preparing baby formula
  • Making ice
  • Providing drinking water for pets

According to CDC guidance, bathing, laundry and dishwashing may generally continue with appropriate precautions.

Does the Advisory Affect Chateau Elan, Hoschton and Surrounding Communities?

This is an important distinction for Northeast Georgia residents.

Having a Braselton mailing address does not automatically mean you receive water from the Town of Braselton.

Different neighborhoods may receive service from different water systems.

The City of Hoschton and Jackson County Water and Sewerage Authority have also issued advisories related to the Bear Creek Reservoir incident.

Whether you live in Chateau Elan, Braselton, Hoschton or another nearby community, check your actual water provider and its official announcements.

Life in Braselton Is About More Than Beautiful Homes

One of the things I love most about living and working in Northeast Georgia is the sense of community.

Whether I'm sharing new businesses coming to Braselton, highlighting local events, exploring our beautiful golf communities or helping families find their next home, I believe staying connected to our neighbors matters.

And sometimes that means putting down my real estate paperwork and picking up a pot of boiling water! 😂

My hummingbirds might be a little confused about why I'm suddenly doing so much cooking, but keeping our neighbors informed is worth it.

Please share this information with your Braselton and Hoschton neighbors, and continue checking official updates until the advisory is lifted.

Stay safe, everyone! ❤️💧
